Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to travel to the northern region in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
