The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a major honors show nears, you'll find a demand for the addition of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of fans dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing and significant. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Just some logic titles scraped into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design behind logic titles is of massive significance. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences worldwide and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge game development, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
