Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important representative stated the incident left him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
